A week later

July 12th, 2007

Well, I’ve had the iPhone for a week now and I totally love it. I find myself using it more than my pc at home. Sure, there things missing like a flash player for safari but I am confident that one will be available soon. So I’ll end by saying that the iPhone is a winner and can only get better.

This post was created on my iPhone via edge.
Not too shabby…

iPhone

July 6th, 2007

Well, it’s finally here and it’s fabulous. I’m referring to the long awaited iPhone.

I had not intended to get one on launch day but I went to my local mall to get a haircut and went by the Apple store. It only took a few minutes of playing with a demo unit to decide I was not going to wait to get it.

There are plenty of reviews out there so I’ll spare you except to say that the iPhone is the most fabulous piece of technology I’ve ever used.

Obligatory myspace style iPhone photo

I believe the success of this device is going to bring in a totally new era of UI as dramatic as the introduction of the mouse. Within a year we should be seeing all kinds of devices with this type of multi touch interface and computers where you no longer need a mouse but rather you just touch and drag on the screen itself.

Don’t fight it; just buy stock in a company that makes screen wipes.

Meet Hopscotch

April 16th, 2007

Hi, I’m Hopscotch. I just moved into my new daddy’s house last weekend. I’m living in the dining room right now until I get to know my big brother Oreo better. Then I’ll get to move into his condo with him. Until then I just get to run around my pen and be adorably cute.

Gotta love me !!!

Gmail Withdrawl

March 1st, 2007

Gmail has been down for the last 7 hours. It’s rather amazing the effect that’s had on me. I’ve been completely bummed all day long. I feel cut off from the universe. A moment ago the main screen loaded and I thought, mistakenly, that it was back. But on trying to open an email it froze again. I’ve had this account since Hurricane Rite lead to the (unneeded) evacuation of Rita because I expected my locally run email server to go down. Maybe its time I reconsidered depending on Google for my mail.

580 comments pending….and I have turned of commenting. Amazing. All spam. Rather makes this hole run your own blog then somewhere between irritating and pointless. I suppose if I had more to say it might be different but of late I spend less and less time at the computer. oh well.

I think maybe this blog will go away soon. comments? hehehe.

Paradigm Shift

January 10th, 2007

Paradigm shift; a phrase often used by marketing departments and management consultants to claim that their latest rehash of the same old thing is somehow totally new. Well, for once, I can truly say I have see an true paradigm shift. In what you my well ask?

In the truly ground breaking new interface being used in the new Apple iPhone. Gone are the “standard” array of buttons and in their place a smooth display capable of becoming what ever control interface is needed. This is truly a paradigm shift in its best meaning.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a new idea. I’m sure many of you may have the same recollection I had when I first saw it. My mind jumped back to the bridge consoles from Star Trek the Next Generation. Smooth glass panels capable of becoming what ever control interface was needed at the time. But Apple has managed to be the first on the screen with an elegant and fully functional version of this concept. Funny isn’t it how so much science fiction makes its way into reality. Just as Captain Kirk’s small colored plastic squares became our 3.5” disks and his fuel consumption reports the yeoman brought became our Tablet PC, now we have the first rendition of Captain Picard’s be anything interface panels.

To be sure, this is a first step but a major one. I can envision a whole array of devices that could benefit from this infinitely configurable interface. Maybe even one day the traditional keyboards on our computers will be replaced by a larger version of this display. Imagine every application having instantly its own optimized panel. That is something I would love to see.

For now I’ll have to look forward to the day I get my iPhone. June seems a long way away right now.

Last Post of the Year

December 31st, 2006

Well, its been a while since I’ve posted. Between work and spending as much time as I can with my sweetie posting just hasn’t been high on my list.

Anyway, how about some fireworks for New Years.

Maybe I’ll post more next year. Ya never know :)

A Tiger? In Houston?

November 24th, 2006

Well, that would make as much sense than a tiger in Africa :) (Monty Python fans should get the joke, if not, turn in your membership card.)

Well, its black friday, the stores are full, and I avoided them by going to the Houston Zoo. Yes, the zoo again. Its actually rather a lot of fun, particularly with the right company :)

Here is a scary picture of a hungry Tiger to entertain you all. (all like 3 of you who read this…heheh)

General Update

October 10th, 2006

So, I’ve not posted in a month now. And as I was chastized about this tonight here I am.

Since the prior post I’ve finished laying the flooring in the living room. The new half wall is still naked but the flooring is in. I still have to finish the quarter round in the kitchen and dining room and do the hallway but hey, progress is progress and the livingroom looks great. :)

On a more important note, Sunday was my 3 month anniversary with Robert, my most wonderful boyfriend. I dearly love him. He is so good to me I can’t even begin to discribe it.

Oh, and just so I don’t get any complaints about there not being a picture in this post, here is a shot of the brand new baby elephant at the Houston zoo. Isn’t he cute :)

Well, thats it for now. Short and sweet.

House Project

September 10th, 2006

Well, its been a while again. Frankly, spending time with my sweetie outweighs bloging :) But last saturday I was home alone while he was in training so I finally framed in the half wall between the dining and living rooms. Basically this is a structural addition to keep the house from falling in. When built there was a full wall between the rooms. A prior owner took it out to make the room more open, understandable. However, the 1″ sag in the beam indicated that they did not beef it up enough. On pulling back the trim I found that they did not beef it up at all. I could see signs of the original wall studs. Anyway, as you can see from the picture the former 12 foot span is now split into 3 spans of about 40 inches. I framed the posts from doubled 2×4 with spacers so that I can run power down one of them. I havn’t decided exactly how I’m going to finish them off just yet, but the solid part will only be at the bottom. Right now the plan is to have a fish tank on the dining room side of the opening that will be visable from both sides. It should be cool. Anyway, a bit more work done. Oh, and now i can finish laying the flooring in the living room. yay.
